This is a voluntary scheme run by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) aiming to promote and maintain high standards of Veterinary care.
A (such as ours in Essex) Practice can apply for one of three levels of accreditation depending on the type of premises, services offered, and species treated.
During the process, the premises are inspected by PSS assessors. All areas of the practice, such as equipment, facilities, paperwork, staff, training, health and safety, drug control and storage are assessed. The assessors also talk with practice team members as well as clients, and observe consultations and surgeries.
Inspections take place every 4 years, our latest having taken place in the autumn of 2023 when we were awarded the General Practice level (GP) at the main surgery, and Core Standards at the Wivenhoe branch.
